Artistic Director & Performance-Led Teaching
Sri Kalamandalam Akhil Marar guides Atlanta Kalakshethra's artistic direction, ensuring every performance reflects authentic Kerala Chenda Melam tradition—ensemble discipline, rhythmic integrity, and the collective energy that defines this sacred art form. His role is centered on performance excellence and cultural preservation for diaspora communities.
At Atlanta Kalakshethra, Sri Kalamandalam Akhil Marar's guidance ensures that every public performance reflects cohesive ensemble timing, strong rhythmic foundation, physical discipline and stamina, and clarity of form and progression. Training under his direction exists to support performance readiness, not as an end in itself. Journey & Master Training
Guru Akhil Marar's path to mastery began at age 10 when he was formally trained by veteran artist Eravath Raman Marar. To perfect his craft, he studied at Kerala Kalamandalam, the world-renowned University of Art & Culture dedicated to preserving traditional Indian performing arts. This rigorous academic and intensive practical training produced a master of traditional Kerala percussion.
With decades of performance experience across India, USA, and Kenya, Aashan initially focused on bringing authentic Chenda Melam to international audiences. But his true passion became clear: preserving this 2,000-year-old sacred tradition for diaspora communities. By partnering with Atlanta Kalakshethra, he ensures that Chenda Melam isn't just performed at temples — it's lived and mastered by the next generation of artists worldwide.
